Cobblemon has become the go-to Pokémon mod for Minecraft Java, and its modpacks add up to millions of downloads. But they are not equal once they run on a server: the Cobblemon version, the mod loader, the number of mods and the RAM they need all matter. Here is our selection, checked in October 2026, with the RAM to plan for and how to install each pack server-side.
What to know before you pick a pack
Cobblemon is still on Minecraft 1.21.1
Minecraft Java has moved to 26.x version numbers, but Cobblemon has not followed: the latest release, Cobblemon 1.8.2 (October 11, 2026), only exists for Minecraft 1.21.1, on Fabric and NeoForge. Every modpack in this article therefore runs on 1.21.1, with Java 21 on the server. Do not update your server to a 26.x version: the pack would no longer start.
Cobblemon 1.7.3 or 1.8: check the bundled version
The 1.8 “Make Your Move” update, released on September 6, 2026, added Alpha Pokémon, TMs with their own machine, the Habitat block (a Pokémon spawner designed for servers and adventure maps), 49 habitat structures and an option to disable Pokémon spawning per world. Some popular packs are still built on Cobblemon 1.7.3. That is not a flaw in itself, but those new features are not included yet.
Fabric or NeoForge
The official pack ships for both loaders, and the Cobblemon team recommends the Fabric version for better performance. Most community packs use Fabric. Your server must run exactly the same loader, the same Minecraft version and the same content mods as your players, from the same pack version.
Best Cobblemon modpacks for a server compared
Figures checked on October 19, 2026 on Modrinth and CurseForge. The RAM column is our estimate for a server with 5 to 10 players; adjust it to your view distance and how much your players explore.
| Modpack | Cobblemon version | Loader | Mods | Recommended server RAM |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cobblemon Official Modpack | 1.8.2 | Fabric or NeoForge | 75 (34 server-side) | 4 to 6 GB |
| Cobblemon Delta | 1.8.2 | Fabric | 53 (26 server-side) | 4 to 6 GB |
| COBBLEVERSE | 1.7.3 | Fabric | 136 | 6 to 8 GB |
| Cobblemon Academy 2.0 | not stated | Fabric | CurseForge pack | 6 to 8 GB |
| Cobblemon x Create | 1.7.3 | NeoForge | 111 | 8 to 10 GB |
Cobblemon Official Modpack: the reliable base
The Cobblemon team's own pack has passed 11 million downloads on Modrinth for the Fabric version alone. It mostly adds optimization and quality-of-life mods without changing vanilla gameplay, plus an optional resource pack and shaders that are disabled by default. It tracks Cobblemon releases closely and is already on 1.8.2.
- Who it is for: groups of friends who want Cobblemon as its developers designed it, and servers that plan to add their own mods.
- Server-side: of its 75 mods, 41 are flagged as client-only in the pack file. The server only keeps 34, which makes it light.
- License: MPL-2.0, an open license, while most community packs are “all rights reserved”.
COBBLEVERSE: the full Pokémon adventure
With more than 7 million downloads, COBBLEVERSE is the most downloaded community Cobblemon pack on Modrinth. It adds all 1025 Pokémon, the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh regions with their Gym Leaders, the Elite Four, Mega Evolutions, Dynamax and Terastallization, 1- to 7-star raids and more than 200 rideable Pokémon. Hostile mobs and hunger are disabled by default.
- Version: 1.7.42 (July 2026), still based on Cobblemon 1.7.3.
- RAM: its authors recommend at least 6 GB for a multiplayer server, more if many friends join. With 136 mods, we would rather aim for 8 GB.
- Mind the license: private servers for friends are fine. However, its custom structures, trainers and datapacks may not be used on a public server that sells ranks or perks, and the server may not be called a “COBBLEVERSE server”. Saying it is “COBBLEVERSE compatible” is allowed.
Cobblemon Academy 2.0: guided progression
A new edition of Cobblemon Academy published on CurseForge by PeteZahHutt, this pack focuses on structured progression. Version 2.7.0 came out on September 23, 2026 and runs on Fabric 1.21.1. Its page states that some features of its own public server, such as raids, dungeons, hideouts and ranked battles, are not available in privately hosted worlds. Plan for 6 to 8 GB of RAM.
Cobblemon x Create: Pokémon meets automation
This NeoForge pack combines Cobblemon and Create with around fifteen Cobblemon add-ons (Mega Showdown, breeding, craftable TMs, trainers with level caps) and two extra dimensions, including The Aether. Its latest version, 1.4, dates from May 2026 and stays on Cobblemon 1.7.3. Create machines keep running on the server: count on 8 GB at least, 10 GB if your players build large factories.
Cobblemon Delta: the lightest and most up to date
Updated on October 15, 2026 (version 4.4.2, Cobblemon 1.8.2), Cobblemon Delta focuses on optimization and quality of life, with only 26 mods to load on the server. Note that the raids, gyms and Mega Evolutions advertised on its page belong to its authors' public server, not to the pack. For your own server, it is a light base close to the official pack.
How much RAM does a Cobblemon server need?
Cobblemon uses more resources than a vanilla server: every Pokémon is an animated entity with its own data, and players exploring on the back of their Pokémon generate a lot of new chunks. Three factors matter more than the player count:
- The number of server-side mods: from 26 for Delta to more than 130 for COBBLEVERSE.
- View and simulation distance: lowering
view-distancefrom 10 to 8 and settingsimulation-distanceto 6 inserver.propertiesnoticeably reduces the load. - Exploration: pre-generating the map with a mod such as Chunky avoids slowdowns when several players discover new areas at the same time.
At MineServ, the MineBox 8G plan (8 GB RAM, 4 vCPU, 50 GB NVMe, €9.98 per month) suits the official pack, Delta and COBBLEVERSE for a group of friends. For Cobblemon x Create or a larger community, the MineBox 12G (12 GB, 5 vCPU, €16.79 per month) gives you headroom, and the MineBox 16G (16 GB, 6 vCPU, €21.59 per month) is aimed at servers with several dozen players.
Installing a Cobblemon modpack on your server
Quick method: one-click install
The MineServ panel offers one-click installation of popular modpacks. If your pack is in the catalog, pick the same version your players installed in their launcher (Modrinth App, CurseForge or Prism Launcher). Make a backup first: installing a modpack replaces the server environment.
Manual method for a Fabric pack
- Open the pack's
.mrpackfile (it is a zip archive) and readmodrinth.index.json: thedependenciessection gives the Minecraft and Fabric Loader versions. The official 1.8.2 pack, for example, uses Fabric Loader 0.19.5. - Install the matching Fabric server with the official installer:
java -jar fabric-installer-1.1.2.jar server -mcversion 1.21.1 -loader 0.19.5 -downloadMinecraft
- Copy the pack's mods into the server's
modsfolder, except the client-only ones (inmodrinth.index.jsonthey are marked"server": "unsupported"): Sodium, Iris, menus, zoom, visual effects… A client mod on the server often causes a crash at startup. - Also copy the pack's
configfolder, then start the server with the RAM you want:
java -Xms6G -Xmx6G -jar fabric-server-launch.jar nogui
On first launch, accept the EULA by setting eula=true in eula.txt, then start again.
Manual method for a NeoForge pack
Download the NeoForge installer for the version the pack uses (21.1.x for Minecraft 1.21.1), then:
java -jar neoforge-21.1.259-installer.jar --installServer
# Set the RAM in user_jvm_args.txt, for example: -Xmx8G
./run.sh nogui
Replace 21.1.259 with the pack's exact version: the official NeoForge 1.8.2 pack uses 21.1.259, Cobblemon x Create 1.4 uses 21.1.227.
Common mistakes
- Mod or registry error when joining: the player and the server are on different pack versions. Put everyone on the same version.
- Updating Cobblemon on its own: swapping Cobblemon 1.7.3 for 1.8.2 inside COBBLEVERSE or Cobblemon x Create breaks the add-ons that depend on it. Wait for the official pack update.
- Wrong Java version: Minecraft 1.21.1 requires Java 21.
- Updating without a backup: moving to Cobblemon 1.8 adds new structures and blocks. Back up your world before any pack update.
Our recommendation
For a first server with friends, start with the official Fabric pack: it is light, already on Cobblemon 1.8.2 and openly licensed. If your group wants a real adventure with gyms, badges and legendaries, COBBLEVERSE remains the reference, as long as you accept Cobblemon 1.7.3 for now and respect its license if the server goes public. Automation fans will pick Cobblemon x Create, with at least 8 GB of RAM.
FAQ
Can you play Cobblemon on a Bedrock server?
No. Cobblemon is a Java mod that every player must install. A bridge such as Geyser does not pass on content added by mods, so in practice Cobblemon is played on Minecraft Java only.
Do all players need to install the modpack?
Yes. Every player installs the same pack, in the same version, from their launcher, then adds the server address in the Multiplayer menu.
How many players can 8 GB of RAM handle?
As a rough guide, with the official pack or Delta, 8 GB is enough for about ten active players with a reasonable view distance. With COBBLEVERSE, count on 5 to 8 players before moving to 12 GB.
Does Cobblemon work on Minecraft 26.x?
Not as of October 2026: Cobblemon 1.8.2 is only released for Minecraft 1.21.1.
